Will social media lose its mojo?
Is social media so hot that it will burn itself out? There's one site out there that's banking on it; it's called Web 2.0 Suicide Machine, and it offers to help visitors for free. Through the site users can "kill their online presence" on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and LinkedIn by clicking a "commit" link (complete with a noose icon).
For all the positive inroads social media has made in just one year, this seems to be a little extreme. Are there really people out there who regret their social media entries and want to back out in such a dramatic way? Are there companies building their presence with social media and suddenly getting cold feet?
We're not sure. There may be an insignificant number of people who have second thoughts, but we're sure this is a trend that will get bigger, not smaller.
