With cloud computing gaining popularity, are data centers on the way out? A new report from the University of California at Berkeley says that cloud computing services are five to seven times more cost effective than the traditional data center. Given this fact, it's likely that more and more firms will switch to cloud computing, leaving data centers behind, reports EnterpriseITPlanet.com.

"You may see some applications, low-criticality applications like email, being outsourced, but any real impact cloud computing will have on data centers is several years off," Nik Simpson an analyst with the Burton Group told the website.
