Wikis in the enterprise
Enterprise wikis can be a great boon to the enterprise. Not only do they allow for online collaboration, but they are relatively inexpensive. Wiki technology is driven by a company's need for constant collaboration with clients, partners and employees. Members of the targeted company departments or user base can comment on proposals such that can then be viewed by all managing people involved and can combine the responses into a final report. It's also a quick route to one-to-many communication, which enhances the communication process, allowing for ongoing responses and interactions from multiple participants within an organization. This represents a major paradigm shift in the workplace. Wiki technology will not replace the Web site, but will allow companies to enhance their Web sites by adding talkbacks for group capability. Many vendors are getting into the enterprise Wiki game, including San Diego-based Mindtouch.
