Why PKI might stage a come-back

Remember all the brouhaha over public key infrastructure (PKI) a few years back? The hype centered on how the new technology could be the security end-all for the enterprise, as it offered up certificates to authenticate access and personal identity. The hype has since died out, but clearly, the value of PKI hasn't and it seems that Vista could cause a resurgence in PKI adoption, as the new OS offers up a very similar encryption feature. According to experts, there's renewed interest in using PKI on the government level as well. Yet there are still some big issues in making PKI fulfill its promise.
