Which IT skills are important to you?
May 15, 2008 — 6:59am ET
IT executives often complain that it is difficult to recruit and retain good security personnel with the necessary skills, but it may be a problem of matching the people to the right jobs.
Companies often need workers with operational skills and those well versed in strategic risk management. A column in Network World suggests companies don't do a good job of separating the two, and end up asking people to do both jobs when the two skill sets are rarely found in one person. The end result not only means the work doesn't get done properly, but it also can lead to job dissatisfaction and eventually resignation.
