Where the jobs are in 2010
It's beginning to thaw out there in the IT job market. And after a year of layoffs and high unemployment, that is good news for IT professionals, especially in the information security world. Govinfosecurity.com put together a list of the kind of IT security jobs likely to open up after the New Year. It's a good primer for anyone uncertain about his or her next step. The one good thing you can be sure of is that there will be a next step.
So right now, your most important job is identifying the top growth areas and being ready to tackle new skill sets.
"Companies today are looking to hire one or two key information security professionals who are experts in a broad range of security skills and are capable of playing several different hats," Jeff Snyder, president of securityrecruiter.com, tells Govinfosecurity.com
Among the hot skills: Access control, user provisioning, digital forensics, incident handling, data loss prevention and ethical hacking capabilities.
"We continue to see demand for positions including security architecture, application security, risk management and regulatory compliance," he says, adding that professionals with these skills will continue to be hired by companies to play a critical role in safeguarding security threats and challenges.
Here are seven growth areas the publication identifies for information security professionals in 2010:
- Risk management
- Security Process Management
- Business Side of Security
- Forensics and Fraud Detection/Prevention
