CIOs and CTOs last year spent much of their online conversations talking about managed services, cloud computing, social networking, SaaS and workplace issues, according to a compilation of buzzwords that popped up in social media. IT solutions provider Logicalis presents 10 of IT leaders' most frequently discussed issues in 2011.

At the top of the list is managed services, which CIOs talked over as a means of giving their own staff more opportunity to work on core activities that drive revenue.

Personnel matters, such as employee retention and motivation, also came up frequently, as CIOs compared notes on salaries and resumes. They also engaged in conversations about questions of ethics.

IT governance and business/IT alignment remained a matter of frequent discussion last year as well. Likewise, IT leaders shared their questions and insights about compliance with regulations and industry standards.

ERP, as Logicalis notes, remained an obvious subject, as IT departments continued to look for ways to help streamline the business.

Virtual desktop technology spurred its share of conversations as IT leaders sought ways to deal with the growing number of mobile devices in the workplace.

The many varieties of outsourcing took up a considerable amount of online chatting. And, naturally, social media was also a hot subject discussed over social media.
