What the IT chiefs at GM, Boeing, FedEx and Aetna make
GM's global CTO Thomas Stephens earned $5.6 million in 2010, including a $900,000 salary, $4.4 million in stock awards and a variety of other perks. Stephens's compensation is high for the field, but he is not the only IT leader earning millions of dollars in annual compensation. Network World's Ann Bednarz unearthed recent pay packages for 25 senior IT executives, based on proxy statements from the 500 biggest U.S. firms. Here is a sample of what she found:
- Time Warner Cable executive vice president and CTO Mike LaJoie netted $2.3 million, including a $589,725 salary and a $585,591 bonus.
- Boeing CTO and senior vice president John Tracy's pay package came to $3.6 million, including a $464,869 salary and a $479,500 bonus.
- FedEx CIO Rob Carter is also being compensated $3.6 million, including a $735,955 salary, a $213,629 bonus, and $450,194 in perks and other compensation.
- Ameriprise Financial paid Glen Salow, executive vice president of service delivery and technology, $4.1 million in total compensation, including a $2 million bonus in addition to a $575,000 salary.
- Aetna's Meg McCarthy, executive vice president of innovation, technology and service operations, earned $5.1 million in compensation, which included $588,506 in salary, a bonus of $837,312 and stock awards of $3.6 million.
