Web services will make software cheaper

If Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer's expectations come true, software and application prices will soon be decreasing as software functionality and security aspects gain speed and greater traction. Thanks to broadband connectivity, the browser window is becoming the new computing environment and that will push "Web 2.0" into reality. The ability to have desktop functionality within a browser will let enterprises lease or subscribe to complex applications, reducing maintenance and support costs and allowing IT leaders to put IT resources on more innovative projects.
