Web 2.0 must be embraced sooner rather than later
CIOs who want to tap into the innovative vein of their organizations would be wise to stop resisting the integration of Web 2.0 technologies (such as blogs, social networking environments, user-generated content, etc.) that have taken the consumer Internet community by storm. Gartner analysts report that employees will continue to push consumer technologies into the enterprise, particularly in areas such as personal productivity tools and communications. Gartner believes that the next round of consumer-led innovations will have an visible effect on revenue or internal spending and processes. "To fully realize the benefits, IT must embrace these technologies as an ongoing strategy rather than on a case-by-case basis," said Jackie Fenn, vice president and Gartner fellow.
