Nobody wants to think that a valued employee is spending his or her time on pursuits other than work, but the fact is that more often than not, workers spend some portion of their day perusing shopping sites, paying bills, or worse yet, checking out adult sites. In many companies, it falls to the CIO to put a monitoring system in place and check it frequently. It can be difficult to determine which sites should be blocked, who is monitored and when to call employees out on their actions. It's quite common, however; experts predict that by 2010, all companies will use some combination of blocking software and monitoring software. And there are plenty of tools that fit the bill now.
