Virtualization technology: Enticing but flawed
Virtualization technology is enticing. After all, the capability to expand server farms at a low price point is something few tech leaders would reject. But as some enterprises have learned, there is still a lot of improvement needed in the tools to manage virtual environments. As one industry analyst explains, while today's server-monitoring tools can identify virtual servers, they haven't reached the level of sophistication needed to analyze the machine context, and so can't act on the data. That means servers likely aren't running at full efficiency. When it comes to identifying issues and roadblocks, the management workload is still pretty manual and labor intensive.
