Verizon blunder puts customer data in the wrong hands
The latest data breach, in what's starting to seem like a daily series, took place at Verizon Wireless late last week, when a file housing data on 5,000 customers was inadvertently emailed to 1,800 people--all of them customers. The Excel spreadsheet file, which contained the cell phone info, emails and phone numbers of customers who use the Razr device, was somehow attached to an email blast on a Bluetooth wireless headset, instead of an order form that was supposed to be attached to the email ad. While the company says it doesn't believe that criminal activity will occur because of the data glitch, experts say that the info could be used maliciously by criminals.
