Trojan worms way onto PCs through word file
May 22, 2006 — 8:01pm ET
A new Trojan is aimed at Microsoft's word applications, specifically Word 2003 and Word XP, with the intent to hijack the user's PC. It's appearing as an attached file and when a user clicks on the malware link it loads into the system and then takes control. Called Backdoor.Ginwui, the Trojan is being assessed as a Risk Level 2 by security vendor Symantec. A patch isn't expected for a couple of weeks so the focus should be on educating users about opening documents from unknown senders.
