Wherever you sit in the IT space, you know you will be impacted by technology trends in the coming year.

Gartner unveiled its list of top 10 technology strategies for 2010 at a conference in Sydney, Australia. The list is of global trends and could affect you no matter where you work.

"Strategic technologies will drive significant change, disruption, modifications to your strategy," said Gartner's senior analyst Nick Jones. He urged all CIOs to explicitly address them in their strategy, plans and IT architecture.

Here are some of the trends on the list:

  • Cloud computing reigns at the top of the list. Jones said CIOs are going to need to explore cloud computing at many different levels of the organization.
  • Green IT is important, but Jones acknowledged that many IT managers still felt the cost will outweigh the value of implementation.
  • Mobile applications are becoming important to the CIO. Although expensive, Jones said developing a native application is the best way to reach your customers.
