If you're in the midst of long-range planning, there's probably one issue that's not on your list--making IT environment friendly. As one industry research firm report indicates, it's time to put environmental and operational issues on that to-do list given that power costs are going to hit your budget line hard in a few short years. And if you think it's just about saving on electrical costs, think again. The first step, says Gartner Research, is to start looking into ways to cut power consumption and related carbon emissions from data centers right now.
