The pros and cons of using DRM

Digital rights management technology is grabbing a lot more attention these days. It's a simple tool for encrypting files against copyright infringement and duplication. Yet they're not perfect and they can be broken pretty easily, as the Sony DRM incident illustrated a few months back. A big reason is that the watermark technology, rules that detail how a file can be used, can be easily erased by a smart techie. The fact that the algorithms in place are still pretty basic only increases the insecurity factor. Yet some big names are plowing it into products and systems.
