The new move to outsource infrastructure
When it comes to outsourcing, the expert advice has always been to hand-off the non-critical tech activities and those projects where return on staff investment isn't efficient. But there's a new trend taking hold with outsourcing, and it's a major turn in a new direction. Companies are starting to outsource one of the most critical and important elements of the enterprise--the actual IT infrastructure. While analysts note there are some big gains in taking this approach, there are also quite a few risks that have to be acknowledged, such as the lack of experience by outsourcers in handling such a huge work project and all the issues that come into play in terms of real-time support and access to the infrastructure.
