In between issuing patches, defending the security aspect of its upcoming Vista system and pretty much trying to muscle into every aspect of handheld computing, Microsoft is also pretty busy on the research and development side of things. Microsoft's 700 researchers worldwide are busy working on 55 disciplines segmented into 20 focus areas that range from new user interfaces to collaboration applications.
