A top task for tech leaders is pushing ahead on new IT initiatives and selling the project to the CEO and executive board. That in itself can be arduous, since making a compelling case can be sabotaged easily if you don't present the right information in the right way. Hefty, boring PowerPoint presentations can kill a funding request. So can presentations that go heavy on tech terms. As one tech leader explains, CIOs must do their homework in preparing to market a project and realize that their 'sell' has to be geared towards the costs, benefits and business aspects of an IT effort.
