Tech's all-time top 25 flops
![]()

The tech community is cutting edge and represents the 21st Century, but not every innovation or bright idea has worked out, made the world better place or made life easier for CIOs and IT professionals. Sometimes solutions cause new problems, or sometimes there is just no simple solution to the issues at hand. InfoWorld.com has come up with a list of IT's biggest flops of all time, many of which should ring a bell.
At the top of the list is security--the never-ending and growing problem. "Thirty years into the personal computer era, and it seems like security is only getting worse. Computer viruses and worms, though simplistic in comparison to any useful application, have become as resilient as the common cold,'' notes InfoWorld.com. Windows Vista ranks second on the flop list, and while it has some positive attributes, few would probably disagree. IPod imitators come next, followed by that never-ending but never-achievable desire for that paperless office. Computers have generated more, not less paper, and it is harder to preserve digital records than the old-fashioned kind.
There are many more items on the all-time flop list. Check them out, give them some thought, and let us know if you have anything to add to the list. - Judi
