Tech economy braces for impact
![]()

It's only been a week since we introduced our recurring "Layoff Watch" column, but in that time alone we've seen thousands of pink slips get handed out at massive tech companies like AMD, Motorola, Dell and, today, AT&T. While some folks remain hesitant to use the "r" word, it's pretty clear that the tech industry is doing what it can to brace itself for an economic downturn. Unfortunately, staff reduction is one of the first solutions that some companies turn to when they're looking for a little more buoyancy in a rough sea, so don't be too surprised if Layoff Watch becomes a regular feature around these parts.
What have your experiences been like in the current economic climate? Did you lose your job? Miss out on a raise? Were you tasked with making cuts? Maybe you've got a positive story that serves as a counterpoint to all of the doom and gloom? Hit us up in the comments and let us know--we'll revisit some of your comments in next Friday's Editor's Corner. -Mehan
