Survey: Vista enters the enterprise, with reservations

According to a new InformationWeek survey, 25 percent of companies already have started moving to Windows Vista, but the vast majority have only installed the operating system on 10 percent of fewer of their PCs. For 58 percent of respondents, Vista installations either aren't on the horizon at all or are more than a year away. One of the key concerns is hardware compatibility; Vista requires more processing power than Windows XP, forcing IT managers to assess whether existing PCs are up to the task. CIOs also are concerned that Vista won't improve productivity, and that the cost of upgrading is too high. But it's not a matter of if--it's a matter of when Vista will take over the enterprise. Enhanced security is the top reason businesses are considering the move.
