Survey: Most CIOs avoiding layoffs
Here's some good news for the tech sector: A new survey by Robert Half Technology finds that the majority of CIOs expect to maintain existing staff levels. Some even plan to add staff. The results, released Tuesday, surveyed 1,400 CIOs and found that 80 percent plan to maintain current staffing levels at least through the second quarter of this year.
Other survey results that were reported by NetworkWorld:
- 8 percent of those surveyed plan to hire IT personnel.
- 6 percent expect staff reductions through the second quarter of this year.
The survey found that 25 percent of those CIOs surveyed are planning to expand; 8 percent forecast an increased workload and 2 percent plan to bring on new staff to help develop new enterprise-wide applications.
"Companies are being more judicious when hiring in today's economic environment. Budgets must support critical IT projects and companies are re-examining their staffing needs accordingly," said Dave Willmer, executive director of Robert Half Technology, in a statement.
