Survey: IT budgets to rise 9 percent in '10

It's looking pretty rosy on the other side of the holiday season.

A new survey by CDW IT Monitor finds that nearly half of corporate IT decision makers surveyed predict that budgets will increase in the next six months--and by an estimated 9 percent.

That's not the only good news. An estimated 76 percent of both private sector and government IT decision makers surveyed say they expect to replace or install new software in the next six months.

"There are a number of dynamics in the marketplace that, when combined, create a greater sense of optimism--especially during a time of the year when people traditionally feel more hopeful," said Thomas Richards, president and chief operating officer of CDW. "However, some uncertainty lingers as potential federal legislation remains under debate. It will be interesting to see how confidence levels behave as these developments continue to take shape."

The CDW IT Monitor is a survey conducted every two months of at least 1,000 IT decision makers in corporations of all sizes and government.

There are other upbeat predictions, too. Of those surveyed, 22 percent say they plan to hire in the next six months. That's an increase of 10 percentage points since October.

We've been saying the end is in sight and a new day may blossom soon. And this kind of survey goes to show.
