Survey: Infrastructure bests security
Although security has topped the list of IT spending for some time, IT managers will be putting more of their dollars into infrastructure, according to a new survey of 100 IT managers from Goldman Sachs. The survey found that the technologies IT buyers are investing in most heavily have changed. More than 40 percent listed consolidation as a high priority for the next year, and almost 40 percent said that virtualization is more important than in past years. Both VoIP and network upgrades were in the top 10, with more than 30 percent planning to invest in voice and another third indicating that a LAN or network upgrade might occur within the next 12 months. On the software front, respondents said ERP and business intelligence would remain high priorities. Security lost ground, along with compliance and risk management. That slippage may indicate some increased comfort with security issues in the enterprise, the study noted.
