About half of organizations aren't training their employees on how to properly manage their records and information, according to a new survey from ARMA International in cooperation with the International Association of Human Resources Information Management. The survey found that 45 percent of organizations don't provide formal training on managing corporate records and information and almost half of those don't have plans to implement such training in the near future. Of the organizations that do provide formal information management training, most rely on email and legal holds, but only one-third cover voicemail as an information management risk area and even fewer address instant messages. The survey also found that 31 percent of organizations don't train their employees specifically about data security or protection of sensitive data. All of this means that many top executives don't fully comprehend the risk of information mismanagement.
