Study: Wi-Fi network security overlooked

When you talk about security, companies are definitely buttoning things up. But when you talk about Wi-Fi, you find a remarkable amount of neglect. A new survey from Motorola finds that more than half of large companies, 64 percent, are neglecting Wi-Fi security and using the same security measures for both wired and wireless networks, reports ComputerWeekly.com. The survey found that only 47 percent of companies are using Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) encryption on their wireless networks.

The survey also found that companies were approaching the security issue the wrong way. ComputerWeekly.com reports that more than half of companies spent upwards of two hours every week trying to hunt down "rogue" access points rather than focusing on encryption. It may be time for a plan and a concerted strategy to get Wi-Fi secured.
