Strange data storage stories
There are plenty of obstacles for the CIO whose data storage system has been hit by a virus. And data recovery company Kroll Ontrack has a list of the most unusual recovery jobs it faced in 2007. The company says it has seen more damaged portable devices than ever before. One customer told engineers she had "washed away all her data" after putting a USB stick through her washing machine. That may sound pretty strange, but there are other true stories as well. One parent forgot about a USB stick left in a pocket and it fell into a dish of apple puree. A fisherman, believe it or not, took his laptop when he went rowing in his boat. Both he and the laptop fell overboard, and the data is now at the bottom of a lake. The bottom line for all CIOs and their workers is to pay attention and do not take your tech devices anywhere they should not be. Let's be frank about all of this. If you train your workers, they will rarely take risks with data that is too important to lose.
