Stimulus package to create IT jobs

There are plenty of hopes riding on President Obama's stimulus package--which has not yet passed in Congress. There are plenty of areas where there will be specific job growth over the next two years, and that certainly includes IT. Career website Jobfox has analyzed Obama's plan and pinpointed specific areas to watch and target as the stimulus plan gets off the ground.

Obama has repeatedly discussed rebuilding the nation's crumbling roads, bridges and schools. In addition to heavy machinery and lots of concrete and steel, these projects will need project managers, civil engineers, computer-aided drafting specialists and other experts who know how to use technology to help out the heavy workload. "They're going to have to outsource the management and design of those projects," says Rob McGovern, Jobfox's chief executive and founder and former CEO of CareerBuilder. "There are going to be companies that pop up just to handle all that work."

Modernization of the health care system will be another major initiative, with a primary focus on getting paper medical records into centralized electronic files. Still in its infancy, there will be plenty of money directed at making this happen to analyze online patient data from one facility to another and help cut the high cost of care.

Another focus is the financial markets. Obama is calling for greater oversight of these markets and that requires accountants, internal auditors, tax accountants and IT personnel who know how to follow the money electronically.

That's just a small start. Your dream IT job may not exist yet, but your skills are in your pocket and ready to be applied in new and creative ways.
