Stay focused when times get tough

Anyone in an IT shop has to feel the winds of change right now. Companies are being asked to do more with less, and IT shops are being asked to do much more. While it may be hard, it is time to focus, according to the experts in a recent CIO.com article.

When dot-coms went bust in 2000, executives were not prepared. But with a little experience under their belts and a new downturn to face, "focus is the name of the game," says Susan Cramm, founder and president of Valuedance, an executive coaching firm specializing in IT leadership, "especially when people and money are tight."

To ease staff concerns and lower your blood pressure, here are a few ideas collected by CIO.com:

  • Have regular staff meetings to deal directly with business conditions.
  • Spend time with your family and find a way to regularly decompress.
  • Stay busy at work so your mind does not wander into gloomy thoughts.
