State contractor sends confidential data into wrong hands

Last week it was a third-party's laptop loss that put customer data in jeopardy. Now it seems an outsourcing firm doing HR work for Florida's employees inadvertently sent confidential data and files, related to over 100,000 employees, to unauthorized subcontractors who then indexed the data. Supposedly none of the information has yet been used for criminal or illegal gain, according to Florida's Department of Management Services. Yet one state senator has called the incident a "critical security breach" and says it is unknown where and how the data might be used in the future.
