Every IT project starts out with the best of intentions: A goal, a game plan and a deadline. But in these difficult times, more projects seem to be killed, canceled or mothballed. So it is especially important to recognize a project that has problems so you can correct them early or cancel it before it wastes money and gets out of hand.

This week, InfoWorld.com outlines a few ways to tell if your project is in trouble:

  • Has the project leadership gone AWOL? Is management direction inconsistent or missing?
  • Are project management and business management disconnected or not marching to the same beat?
  • Is the team unable to articulate the project's goals?

If your answers to these questions are "Yes," you can be sure there is trouble brewing and it's time to step in swiftly before the damage is too great.
