Should a CIO go part time to help the company?
In a recent advice column in InfoWorld.com, one working CIO asked a simple question: Is it a good idea to go part time in order to keep the company going? As part of his company's downsizing, he's been asked to work three days a week, and take a smaller salary.
The answer is simple: Take your time evaluating what you are going to be doing and the 40 percent that won't be happening. Walk the CEO through the solution or alternatives so that it's all clear and businesslike, and make sure he or she knows it will result in less work from you.
Don't ask your employees to do extra work if they are working for less pay. Don't do extra work either, and use your days off productively, the advice column counseled.
