Security vendor employee data goes missing

A few weeks nearly went by without a new report of a company losing confidential customer data; but the streak has been broken, and you'll be a bit surprised to find out who's at fault. It seems back in late 2005 a staffer with Deloitte & Touche left a CD on a plane seat containing sensitive information related to nearly 10,000 McAfee employees (yes, the security vendor). The unencrypted files held social security numbers and data on stock holdings by the employees. The security vendor didn't find out about the CD incident for nearly a month after it happened, and only after Deloitte determined what employees had been impacted were the employees notified by snail mail.
