Security, access concerns stall Sun Grid effort
Sun Microsystems is laying the delay of its Sun Grid effort at the feet of Uncle Sam, saying the State Department's involvement and security concerns are pushing back the project's unveiling. The effort, which Sun says will provide computing processing and storage capabilities for $1 an hour to customers, is still very close to arrival, but there are some major changes in terms of customer access. The federal government's concerns have actually changed the global aspect of the grid to a US-based effort due to import and export issues and regulations on certain companies accessing such a network. One industry analysts says the changes and delays have made the grid "a laughing stock" of a project.
