Sealed-in batteries may be the next big thing

Sealed-in batteries may be the next big thing, but it will take some getting used to for consumers who are accustomed to batteries that can come out of a computer when they run out of steam and need to be replaced. Everyone has had the experience of a battery giving out, but then it was easy to buy a new one and pop it into the computer.

Given the potential problems, why would vendors seal in batteries and why would consumers want to buy a computer with one already embedded and unable to be swapped? Well, a sealed-in battery is easier to design for a laptop manufacturer, according to an article in InfoWorld. It's likely to take up less space, too. The computer becomes slimmer and lighter with the new battery design--which is appealing on its own! As computers change, sealed-in batteries are actually a step forward, not a step back.
