Every senior executive brings a different background and management approach to the job, which can make it tricky to know how to communicate with new executives. However, the differences can be used to your company's advantage if properly exploited, write authors Jim Taylor and Lisa Haneberg. In a new book, "Connecting Top Managers: Developing Executive Teams for Business Success," they set out a model for conducting effective meetings with the C-suite and creating a collaborative environment among an organization's leadership.

Taylor and Haneberg's advice can be broken down into 10 tips, which CIOInsight's Dennis McCafferty presents in a slideshow. Here, in a nutshell, are five of the 10 ways to improve collaboration with senior executives:

1. Talk face-to-face rather than relying on email exchanges.
2. Define your terms of success.
3. Establish how you will measure success.
4. Nurture talent within management.
5. Work together on agile management.
