Risk management: Growing pains

There has been a significant shift as organizations have had to adapt to the fact that they need control and process in their security, and risk management is a big part of that. These changes have forced CIOs and CSOs to become something like strategic risk managers. And things are likely to get worse; corporate data can leak out of multiple holes these days, and there will be more leaks in the future. Compliance issues complicate the situation. CIOs and CSOs must become much more strategic in their thinking and learn to move away from the nuts and bolts of IT. Risk management tends to be very intangible and requires intuition. That means taking a holistic view as to how risk and security fit into the business as a whole.
