Revenge of the IT worker

IT workers have had some tough years, facing widespread layoffs, salary reductions and more work for less money, but the outlook seems to be slowly changing, according to recent hiring statistics and a survey from Harris Interactive. With confidence in the economy on the rise, a lot of IT workers are starting to look around for employers who will treat them better, reports Patrick Thibodeau at ComputerWorld.

Sixty-one percent of tech workers with a salary between $35,000 and $50,000 are likely to begin a job hunt over the next year, according to the survey. Among those earning more than $75,000, 36 percent plan to start looking for a new job.

"As cuts were made in IT, the remaining staff was asked to do significantly more without additional compensation. It really did create some pent-up animosity," said Sean Ebner, a regional vice president at the recruiting firm Technisource, which commissioned the study.
