Recruiters: Tips on getting the job you want
How do CIOs and IT managers move on and get better jobs? Sometimes it's personal networking and contacts, and sometimes it's with the help of a headhunter. But with the importance of the CIO increasing in the business world, expectations are high. Experts say that CIOs with the best opportunities of landing a top job must have a solid track record, showing they have been through a business cycle or two, made tough decisions and have done more right than wrong. It also helps to have some visibility within the community, even if it's just having given a speech at a conference, or developed an expertise in a particular area that has attracted attention.
Furthermore, it is recommended that job hopefuls build relationships with executive recruiters. And if you are young and ambitious, sometimes it may be wise to make a lateral move to a bigger company that can serve as both a learning environment and an investment in the future.
