Recession pressures CIOs to be innovative
Clearly, we are neck-deep in a recession, but how should we deal with it? "Innovation" is the response provided by Forrester analyst Bobby Cameron. That means you cannot just execute your existing plans and strategies. You must find new ways to deal with down times and prepare for better ones.
"I have found consistently that many CIOs are increasing the proportion of capital spend that goes on innovation, even if budgets are decreasing," he said in a recent Techworld article. "People are looking for ways to be creative."
Still, it can be difficult to innovate without spending tons of additional money. Companies must examine if it can be done or if old projects need to be downsized in order to shift resources to new initiatives. The IT shops that figure this out will be far ahead of their competitors when the recession does end. Although they will emerge battle weary, they will be stronger from the ordeal.
