R&D getting trimmed by tech companies
While all the economic signs seem robust--hiring is up as is IT spend--the tech spending on research and development in technology segments doesn't seem to be quite as healthy. Microsoft and Bell Labs are just two giants trimming spend in that arena, though some other titans, such as IBM, are pushing more dollars into the R&D stream. A recent study, though, shows that the overall R&D line is shrinking. Some economic experts are a bit worried about the long-term impact of such a trend.
