When a data tape containing 200,000 client names went missing last year, Ameritrade realized it had to implement a data protection strategy within its storage infrastructure. When it acquired TD Waterhouse soon after, tech leaders knew they also had to take into consideration the merged data warehouses coming into play. The big hurdle, according to CIO Jerry Bartlett, was investigating the options and choosing a security solution. The deployment and implementation of a new tape encryption approach, thanks to good project management, ran smoothly and quickly.
