Procter and Gamble CIO on IT as a change agent

For Procter and Gamble CIO Filippo Passerini, IT should be the change agent for a company, driving improvements in business processes. Passerini describes some of his strategies as well as the challenges he sees in driving the company's costs down while spurring innovation in an interview with Don Reisinger at CIOInsight.

Passerini is encouraging cloud computing as a way of reducing costs, including a proprietary cloud service that enables executives to meet weekly to review performance reports. The initiative has reduced costs by $800 million while increasing innovation, he told CIOInsight.

While he is optimistic about 2011, Passerini did not say he expects to increase his IT staff next year. He recommends that IT departments remain agile and open to change. "The future is completely in our hands," he said. "If we become a commodity, we're about cost. If we drive distinct value, life will be very pleasant and interesting."
