Presence technology can boost productivity by allowing companies to determine how employees spend their day--whether on line, writing emails or on the phone--and reducing costs across the board. The problem, though, is that making such technology work requires a unified communications system that ties in everything from email and VoIP to conferencing and calendaring. So before you invest in this emerging tool, experts warn, you have to consider the telco requirements, the network workload and what specific benefits you can glean.
