Predictions for 2009: It's all about the economy
A year ago, the world looked very different. IT was expanding, and most predictions were concerned with "how far?" and "how fast?" IT would grow. With the economic meltdown in the autumn of 2008, predictions were turned on their heads, and the expectations for growth were destroyed.
Now the big question is: Who will survive this recession, which shows no sign of ending anytime soon?
Here are predictions for 2009 from CSOonline.com:
- The economy will limp along. The whole of 2009 will be rough, but by year's end, there will be an upswing.
- Most IT departments will stumble through the recession in fairly reasonable shape; some market segments--hardware and consumer electronics--will get hosed.
- On the plus side, economic downturns tend to drive innovation and spur the roll out of new technologies, to lure users to spend money.
