Pioneer crams 400 GB onto a single Blu-ray disc

Pioneer has come up with a 16-layer Blu-ray disc that can hold a whopping 400 GB of data--16 times more data than a standard 25 GB single-layer Blu-ray disc currently on the market can hold. Pioneer adds that the new discs will be backward compatible to existing discs. While there is doubtless value to be found in the enterprise in terms of data backup, some analysts cast doubt that discs with this capacity will enjoy high popularity with content producers anytime soon. The reason has to do with the perception of value when a customer purchases a multidisc set, as opposed to a single disc.
