A desktop PC theft at an Ohio-based health-care provider's office has put the confidential data of tens of thousands of clients in five states in serious risk. According to Electronic Registry Systems Inc. (ERS), the data theft took place in late November and was part of a building break-in incident that involved other offices within the office building where ERS is located. The company, which services health care data for more than 300 regional hospitals, cancer centers and university hospitals, says the data should remain safe and secure given the security authentication levels built into its data system.
