Panasonic is viewed primarily as a consumer electronics maker in the United States, but in the company's home country of Japan, it is viewed largely as an enterprise solutions provider, reports Kym McNicholas at Forbes. The nearly century-old company is attempting to boost its presence in the U.S. corporate market, particularly with its green initiatives.

Among Panasonic's business offerings are security solutions, and the company is bringing those and other services to U.S. businesses via Panasonic Enterprise Solutions. It is also working hard to push its energy solutions, including lighting control, energy management and building management systems.

Large businesses in the United States that are taking advantage of Panasonic's enterprise initiatives include Infineon Raceway, a NASCAR and IndyCar event host in Sonoma, Calif. The raceway deployed solar panels and a low-energy LED video board from Panasonic. Electric vehicle maker Tesla is a major U.S. purchaser of Panasonic's lithium ion batteries. As McNicholas reports, each vehicle takes more than 6,800 of these batteries.
